Cockroach is a winged insect under order Blattodea. There are more than 4560 species of cockroaches were discovered but only 1% of them act as urban pests. Other 99% species of cockroaches live at rural area and act as natural decomposers. Cockroaches undergo incomplete metamorphosis (hemimetabolous). They pass through three life stages: eggs, nymphs and adults. The nymphs look similar like adults, but the nymphs are smaller than adults, wingless and have immatured sexual organs. American cockroach (Periplaneta americana)
American cockroach is a type of large species of common cockroach. It is reddish brown in colour and has a pair of long and tapered cerci at the abdomen part. A female American cockroach can lay up to 90 oothecae and each ootheca has 14 to 28 eggs. An adult American cockroach can survives for 180 to 300 days. It can be found easily in drainage, sewer areas, kitchen and rubbish disposal area.
German cockroach (Blatella germanica)

Brown banded cockroach is a type of small species of common cockroach. It is yellowish brown in colour and the pronotum is dark brown with lighter lateral edges. A female brown banded cockroach can lay up to 3 to 5 oothecae and each ootheca has 16 eggs. An adult brown banded cockroach can survives for 105 to 110 days. It can be found easily in bedroom, furniture and inside the cars.
